Error returning Library books

When I attempt to return a library book I get "Windows has a problem with this program." Then I'm asked to "attempt" the program or close the program if I close then the program just shuts down and I have to reopen it. When I choose "debug" I get a message that "Windows can not repaire the program but will keep looking for the answer." and thats it. When I get tired of looking at that title I just delete it but I can't delete it from my Bookshelf. I have to just let the book expire. I have 2 books like that now. My question is how can I reinstall Digital Editions to repire the program and second how can I stop this from happening again.  Thank you for your time and trouble.
