PDF eBook fine in Adobe Digital Editions, but same file has pages missing in PDF applications?

I purchased a book which arrived as an .acsm file.

Installing it in Adobe Digital Editions causes the actual .pdf file to download. I can read it fine using Adobe Editions.

However, whenever I attempt to view the .pdf file using anything else, certain pages are missing. This is true even after removing the DRM.

If I try to view the .pdf file using Adobe Acrabat Pro, there appears to be tiny placeholders for the missing pages. However, if I go to one of those placeholders, Acrobat crashes.

I simply want to view the book that I legally purchased on an application other than Adobe Digital Editions. I don't understand why the pages show up fine using Adobe Digital Editions, but appear to be missing (or have tiny placeholders of some sort) on other applications for pdf files. What can I do?
