Can't Change Authorized User

I installed Digital Editions without an authorized user. When I tried to authorize with my Adobe ID, I got the error message shown below. I de-installed, re-installed, tried to add my Adobe ID and got the same error message. I am trying to transfer epub library books from my MAC to my iPad. I've attached a screen shot of the error message I always get.
